Current Active Drilling Rigs Report

Over the past month, oil prices have risen and fallen. On August 28th, prices hit a low of $80.10. From there, prices hit a high of $90.58 on September 18th. On August 26th, prices closed at $90.39.

The October 6th Baker Hughes rig count report shows a continuing decline in the active rig count. Baker Hughes reports 609 active drilling rigs in the US. One month ago, the total active rig count was 669. One year ago, the total active rig count was 762.

The oil rig count is currently 497 rigs, compared to 512 one month ago and 602 one year ago. The gas rig count is 118, compared to 115 one month ago and 158 last September.

In the major plays, the Permian Basin rig count is at 309 rigs, down eleven from the August count.

In east Texas, the Eagle Ford has 50 active rigs, two fewer than August.

The Haynesville rig count is 39 rigs, down three from last month.

The Anadarko rig count is 39 rigs, down three from August.

The active rig count in the Niobrara is 14 rigs, down 20 from last month.

The Williston Basin rig count is 32 rigs, down one from August.

The Appalachian has 43 active rigs, down five from the August count.
